Pretending completely oblivious to Violet's darkening expression, Margaret offered a breezy greeting and sat down with Maeve.

Stefan ignored them entirely. He picked up a piece of braised short ribs and placed it on Winona's plate. "Let's eat."

Winona nodded, keeping her head down and focusing on her meal.

Violet turned to the housekeeper. "Bring Winona a bowl of the turtle soup. She's been exhausted taking care of Stefan lately. She needs to keep her strength up."

The housekeeper nodded, quickly serving a steaming bowl and placing it in front of Winona.

"Thank you," Winona said softly.

Seeing this, Margaret chimed in. "Mom, Maeve has a delicate constitution too. She should have a bowl as well."

Violet scoffed loudly. "She doesn't need it. She had plenty of strength when she shoved me and practically chewed on Winona's arm the other day. If I feed her this, I probably won't survive the next dinner."

Margaret flushed, swallowing her retort.

Ever since Winona entered the picture, Violet's attitude toward her had gotten infinitely worse. In Margaret's mind, everything was Winona's fault.

Maeve lowered her eyes, forcing out a tearful sniffle. "I'm so sorry. I know I was wrong. I don't know what came over me that day... I just acted on impulse."

When Violet completely ignored her, Maeve turned her pathetic gaze to Stefan. "Stefan, she won't believe me, but you trust me, right?"

Stefan looked at her, his eyes dead and cold. Instead of answering, he asked, "You're the one who hired Frances Hogan to kidnap Winona, aren't you?"

Maeve's heart slammed against her ribs.

She had paid Frances a massive sum in hush money. There was no way Frances would have sold her out.

Clinging to that thought, she forced her voice to stay steady. "I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't even know anyone named Frances."

Stefan let out a dark chuckle. He picked up his phone, pulled up a video, and tossed it onto the table in front of her.
