Maeve's eyes widened in horror. "Stefan... how could you be so cruel to me? After all the years we've spent together, how could you do this?"
Stefan sneered. "Because this time, you crossed a line. You hurt Winona. I tolerated you out of respect for your father, but you shouldn't have tested my patience. Winona is innocent. You laid a hand on her, and I no longer care about the past."
It was the first time Maeve had ever seen him so ruthlessly unforgiving. Panicking, she whipped her head toward Margaret, desperately hoping for a lifeline.
Margaret had always assumed Maeve was just a fragile girl suffering from occasional mental breakdowns due to her illness. She had absolutely no idea the girl was capable of hiring kidnappers and orchestrating arson.
Meeting Maeve's pleading gaze, Margaret deliberately looked away.
She wanted to maintain ties with the Mallory family, yes, but this was too much. If that fire had been just slightly worse, Evander wouldn't be the only son she had buried. Stefan was all she had left.
She couldn't let anything happen to him.
With the evidence completely undeniable, Maeve needed to learn a harsh lesson. Even the Mallorys couldn't possibly defend this.
Stefan stared coldly at Maeve. "The police will be here shortly to take your statement. It's time you face the consequences for your actions. Your illness is not a free pass to destroy lives."
Maeve just stared at him, paralyzed.
He was actually sending her to jail. How could he be so heartless?
As Maeve's face twisted into a mask of pure hysteria, Stefan looked up at his mother. "Mom. You brought her here, you take her away. If she starts throwing a tantrum in my house, I will have the police lock you in a cell with her."
Margaret flinched.
She knew Stefan never made empty threats. If she actually got locked in a room with a spiraling Maeve, she might not live to see tomorrow.
