The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 54

Winona pushed all thoughts of Yulen aside and threw herself back into her research at the lab. After a long day, she returned to her apartment. Just as she was about to order takeout, Rhea called, her voice buzzing with excitement. “Winona, that son of a bitch finally got what he deserved.”

Confused, Winona waited for her to continue.

Rhea happily recounted what had happened. With Yulen backing him, Zayden was untouchable by the law. So, Rhea had her new boyfriend take care of it. He’d sent some people to give Zayden a thorough beating, leaving him in the hospital with two broken legs. Thanks to her boyfriend's shady connections, the police couldn't trace it back to anyone, so Zayden’s family had no choice but to accept their bad luck.

On top of that, her boyfriend had someone lean on Rhea’s boss. The next day, her boss showed up at her apartment in person, begging her to come back to work. Rhea had finally gotten her sweet revenge!

Winona listened, growing more uneasy by the second. “Rhea, this boyfriend of yours sounds like a dangerous guy. Are you sure you won’t get hurt being with him?”

“It’s just a mutually beneficial arrangement,” Rhea said dismissively. “It doesn’t matter who I’m with, and he can help me out. Don’t worry about me. The point is, this whole thing is settled, and justice was served, right?”

Winona was still concerned, but Rhea was reluctant to say more about her boyfriend, so she didn’t press the issue.

After another two weeks of late nights at the lab, combined with a sudden cold snap, Winona caught a nasty cold. When her alarm went off Friday morning, she opened her eyes and the whole room spun. A thermometer confirmed she had a fever of 102.

Since she was pregnant, she couldn't just take any medication, so she forced herself out of bed and tried to cool down with a lukewarm sponge bath. But the fever wouldn’t come down. Half out of it, she managed to order a pregnancy-safe fever reducer on her phone.

When the doorbell rang, she dragged her heavy body to the door. The moment she opened it, she collapsed.

The delivery guy panicked and immediately called 911.

The next morning, her fever had broken. She let the caregiver go and was preparing to be discharged when she saw Blythe and Tallulah walking towards her in the hospital lobby.

Blythe’s face was grim. “What are you doing here? Did you hear about Zayden? Our family has had nothing but bad luck since we met you.”

Still weak and exhausted, Winona had no energy to deal with them and turned to leave. But Tallulah lunged forward and grabbed her wrist. “Winona, can you stop chasing Yulen already? Are you really that desperate to be the other woman?”

Winona stared at her coldly. “You know perfectly well who the other woman is. I was with Yulen long before you came along.”

As she spoke, Winona instinctively shielded her stomach. Tallulah’s eyes followed the movement, and a sense of foreboding washed over her. She lunged again, trying to snatch the medical chart from Winona’s hand.
