In that moment, Yulen wished he could murder Stefan Goddard.
Giselle finished dressing and looked over at him. "Your driver dropped me off earlier. Can you give me a ride home?"
Yulen nodded silently, went into the bathroom to shower, and then they left together.
In the elevator, Giselle touched the dark bruise on her neck and offered him a wicked little smile. "You bite hard. If you do this again, I'm not playing with you anymore."
Yulen pulled out his phone and wired her a generous sum of money.
"Buy yourself some ointment."
She smiled, accepting the transfer without hesitation. "All forgiven."
Staring at Giselle, Yulen realized he felt absolutely nothing for her emotionally.
His heart had only ever raced for Winona.
When he first started sleeping with Tallulah, the sheer thrill of the taboo had been intoxicating, keeping him hooked for a while.
But with Giselle, it was purely a physical release.
He had finally realized that physical needs and romantic love were two entirely separate entities.
Winona was probably the same way, right?
After that day, Yulen frequently invited Giselle out for drinks.
Giselle, heavily addicted to the physical chemistry between them, never said no.
They settled into a quiet, mutually beneficial underground arrangement.

Tuesday afternoon, Winona hosted several senior researchers from out of town who had come to the lab for an exchange program. By the time the meetings wrapped up, it was already 8:00 PM.
Winona escorted them to a nearby hotel.
Standing by the elevator bank, she spotted Yulen and Giselle.
It was obvious they had just been kissing. Giselle’s lipstick was entirely gone, while a faint smear of pink clung to the corner of Yulen’s mouth.
Winona couldn't care less who Yulen was sleeping with. She coolly averted her gaze and resumed her highly technical conversation with the senior scientists.
Yulen hadn't expected to run into her. Panic flashed across his face.
He took a step forward, desperate to explain, but the icy indifference in her eyes made him freeze in his tracks.
Giselle found the entire interaction fascinating, her eyes locked on Winona’s face.
She was dying to see how Winona would react to the fact that she was sleeping with the love of her life.
But Winona's utter lack of a reaction left Giselle deeply disappointed.
Once they were inside their hotel room, Yulen completely lost the mood.
Giselle smirked. "If we're not doing this, I'm leaving."
Yulen looked at her, his voice tight. "You saw Winona downstairs. Do you think she cares that we're getting a room together?"
This was the perfect opportunity to make her move on Stefan.
That night, a massive thunderstorm rolled in.
On his way home, Stefan video-called Winona from the backseat of his car.
Winona had just stepped out of the shower and was complaining about the terrible hotel hairdryer.
Stefan chuckled warmly. "I'll have Ezra buy you a new one."
"Don't bother," Winona said. "It's pouring in Seabrook City, too. Don't make them run around in this weather."
"I'll be up late tonight. Call me whenever," Stefan offered.
Since getting together with him, Winona had naturally unlocked the ability to act completely spoiled.
"If I tell you to sing me to sleep, will you do it?"
Stefan's smile was devastatingly tender. "I can, but I'm completely tone-deaf. Can you handle that?"
"Your voice is so gorgeous, I wouldn't even care."
They casually traded sweet nothings as if they were the only two people in the world.
In the front seat, the driver and the bodyguard maintained expressions of stone-cold professionalism, though both secretly wished the floorboards would swallow them whole.
Suddenly, the driver slammed on the brakes.
