The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 599

Stefan glanced out the windshield and said to Winona, "I have to hang up. I'll call you when I get home."

"Is everything okay?" she asked, a note of worry in her voice.

"The rain is too heavy. The driver missed a roadblock and had to brake hard. Don't worry."

He ended the call.

"What's the issue?" Stefan asked the driver.

"There's a car blocking the road ahead. Looks like it broke down."

The bodyguard stepped out into the downpour to investigate.

When he returned, a woman was trailing closely behind him.

Stefan lowered his window and found himself face-to-face with Giselle Reed.

She was drenched to the bone, her hair and clothes plastered to her curves in a way designed to look effortlessly tragic.

Giselle stared at him with wide, pitiful eyes. "Mr. Goddard, my car broke down, and it's impossible to get a cab out here right now. Could you please give me a ride home?"

Everyone in their circles praised Stefan for being a perfect gentleman.

Giselle was banking on him offering a helping hand.

To her utter shock, Stefan flatly refused. "That's not going to work, Ms. Reed."

He turned to his bodyguard. "Call a cab for her."

"Yes, sir."

Seeing his icy detachment, Giselle bit her lip, her fingers gripping the edge of his window frame. "Mr. Goddard, I'm freezing. I feel so sick. Can't you just let me sit in the car to warm up?"

Stefan swept a glacial look over her, his lips curling into a mocking sneer. "Ms. Reed. The route from the research institute to your home doesn't pass through here. Are you honestly trying to tell me that breaking down in this exact spot, right before my car arrived, was just a coincidence?"

Giselle’s face turned deathly pale. She never expected him to be so terrifyingly sharp, nor did she expect him to rip away her pathetic little facade so brutally.

The bodyguard stepped in, firmly pulling her away from the vehicle. "I'll call you a cab, Ms. Reed. Please wait here for a few minutes."

As Stefan’s car drove off into the night, Giselle was left standing in the rain, drowning in humiliation and bitter resentment.

Meanwhile, Winona waited anxiously for Stefan’s call.

Fifteen minutes later, her phone rang.

She answered the video call to see Stefan pulling his shirt over his head.

He was built flawlessly—broad shoulders, a narrow waist, lean and heavily muscled.

Winona shamelessly admired the view for a moment before remembering her concern. "What happened earlier?"

Stefan’s dark eyes flared with raw heat. "Want to join me?"

Winona’s face instantly flushed, her heart racing. "No way. I already showered."

"A shame," Stefan murmured.

He walked into the bathroom, leaving the phone propped up on the counter.

The screen quickly fogged up with steam.

Winona couldn't actually see anything, but she could clearly hear the low, heavy sound of his breathing.

Suddenly realizing exactly what he was doing, her heart slammed against her ribs.

A few minutes later, he walked out of the bathroom, a towel slung low on his hips, and picked up the phone.

Seeing Winona’s flushed face, he smirked. "Like what you see?"

Winona nodded helplessly. "Yeah."

His voice was pure gravel. "When you get back, I'll let you look as much as you want. Deal?"

Winona knew she was definitely going to have inappropriate dreams tonight.

Ever since this man locked her down, he had become lethally good at flirting.
