The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 616

The assistant jumped back, staring at him in shock.

Yulen snapped back to reality, forcing a cold mask of composure over his face. "Give me the files."

The assistant bent down to retrieve them, noticing the dark stains spreading across the paper. "Mr. Locke, they're ruined with coffee. I'll go print fresh copies."

"Fine," Yulen muttered.

The assistant practically fled the room.

After work, Yulen drove straight to Helena's beauty salon.

Greta was at a desk doing her homework. When she saw him walk in, her face tightened into a scowl. Instead of greeting him warmly like she used to, she asked coldly, "What are you doing here?"

The hostility stung, but Yulen forced a tight smile. "Greta, did Winona take you out to play this weekend? Was Stefan Goddard with you?"

"None of your business," Greta snapped.

Yulen's jaw clenched. He despised this attitude. He had always been generous with Winona's family. Even if he had lied to Winona, they should still be grateful to him.

Hearing the commotion, Helena walked out from the back. Seeing Yulen, her expression darkened. "What do you want?"

Yulen's frustration boiled over, fueled by Helena's blatant disdain. "Helena, I saw that Stefan went with you on your trip. What, does Winona actually think she's going to marry him?"

Helena remembered the dead look in Winona's eyes when she first left Yulen. Winona had tried to stay strong, but the devastation had been palpable. Helena knew the agony of a broken marriage, and she felt her niece's pain viscerally. Helena could scream and fight her useless ex-husband, but Winona had been trapped by Yulen's wealth and power, forced to swallow her pain just to keep her family safe.

Yulen stumbled back, stunned. He was used to being deferred to, treated with respect and caution. He wasn't used to a middle-aged woman coming at him with a dirty mop.

As she chased him out onto the sidewalk, Helena grabbed a trash bag resting by the door and hurled it directly at him. It burst open, showering him with used medical salon waste and half-eaten takeout.

A sickening, sour stench hit Yulen's nose, making his stomach heave. He gagged, nearly throwing up on his own Italian leather shoes.

Greta ran out from the back, holding a half-finished bowl of greasy, fiery-red spicy takeout food that one of the aestheticians had left behind. "Mom, use this!"
