Winona received a call from a senior alumnus who worked at Riverton University. He practically begged her to give a speech for the pharmacology students at the upcoming anniversary celebration.
Given her heavy workload and the fact that her energy levels had dropped since getting pregnant, Winona politely declined. But the alumnus was relentless, calling her four or five times to persuade her. Unable to turn down such an earnest request, she finally agreed.
She stayed up for two nights drafting the perfect speech.
But the night before the event, the alumnus called to apologize. "I am so sorry, Winona. The speech might have to be canceled. We ran into an unexpected situation on our end. I am truly sorry. Let me buy you dinner sometime to make up for it."
Winona didn't take offense. "It's fine. I understand."
After hanging up, she went back to reviewing her work files.
Stefan returned home and asked, "Do you want a late-night snack?"
Ever since she got pregnant, he made sure to bring back food whenever he worked late, a different option every night. Since she tended to get hungry in the middle of the night lately, Winona didn't refuse. She stood up and asked, "What did you get?"
Stefan unpacked a serving of ravioli and a cup of light-sugar milk.
Winona sat down and eagerly began eating. "The snacks you've been bringing lately are so good. Are you driving really far to buy them? If it's too much trouble, don't worry about it. I can just have some nuts and toast at home."
"It's no trouble at all," Stefan smiled.
In reality, Wynne was the one having the late-night meals prepared. She didn't dare deliver them herself, afraid that Winona would find her over-attentiveness suspicious.
After she finished eating, Stefan took her downstairs for a walk to help her digest, and then they headed back up to rest.
Right before bed, Winona was scrolling through short videos and saw a clip of a local food spot. "The veggie rolls, savory steamed rice cakes, and jujube milk from this place look amazing. Can you get these for me next time?"
"Of course," Stefan nodded.
Killian rolled his eyes in disbelief. "This speech has zero substance. She's just using English to bluff the amateurs. Any real professional would instantly know how full of hot air she is."
Winona, having finished her meal, shrugged dismissively. "Let's head back to work."
By evening, the video of Giselle's speech was trending online.
Seeing all the netizens praising her, Giselle was in high spirits.
Sylvan had wanted to build her up as a genius in scientific research before her birthday party. To do this, he had heavily invested in a new lab building for Riverton University just to secure her a spot to show off at the anniversary event.
Following this speech, several official academic conferences sent her invitations. Naturally, Giselle accepted them all with pleasure.
Sylvan started bringing her to his business dinners, eagerly introducing her to everyone as his brilliant daughter. Some executives, eager to flatter Sylvan, asked him with a smile for his secret to raising such an outstanding child.
