The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 649

Right after work, Winona received a call from Helena.

Greta had been frightened by a speeding luxury car near her school, falling and breaking her arm. They were at the hospital. The driver had an awful attitude and just wanted to throw money at the problem. Helena was furious and asked Winona to find a lawyer.

Winona immediately called Hayes, then rushed straight to the hospital.

As soon as she reached the ward, she heard an argument inside.

"The kid is fine now, just a broken arm. I'm willing to cover all the medical bills. What more do you want?"

"Do you hear yourself?" Helena practically roared. "You were speeding in a school zone, hit a child, and you just want to brush it off? I am calling the police and getting a lawyer to sue you."

"Oh, please. You just want to blow this out of proportion to extort me for cash. It's disgusting that greedy people like you are even allowed to be parents. Shameless."

Winona walked in and saw the person arguing with Helena.

She had thought the voice sounded familiar. It was Giselle.

Winona walked over, asked how Greta was doing, and then turned to Giselle. As she brushed past her, she caught the faint stench of alcohol.

"Were you drunk driving?"

Giselle panicked for a second but quickly shot back, "I didn't drink. I was just at a dinner party. It's perfectly normal to smell a little like alcohol."

She quickly tried to change the subject. "Winona, that's your aunt, right? Since we're such good friends, talk some sense into her. I made a tiny mistake and accidentally hurt the kid. Tell her to stop trying to extort me, okay?"

Disgusted by her utter shamelessness, Winona stepped forward and slapped her hard across the face.

Giselle's cheek stung like fire.

"What the hell is your problem?" she shrieked.

"Before you make accusations, Mr. Scully," Winona sneered, "why don't you ask Giselle what she did? She injured a child while drunk driving and then insulted my aunt. Did you know she was that despicable?"

"Impossible. Giselle would never do such a thing," Sylvan defended her blindly. "You just want to extort money. Out of respect for Stefan, I won't make a big deal out of this. Is a hundred thousand for medical bills enough?"

He signed a check and tossed it onto the floor, like he was tossing change to a beggar.

Winona was repulsed. She grabbed a thermos from the table and hurled it at him. "We are calling the police. We are not letting this go."

Sylvan barely dodged the scalding water, his face turning thunderous. But with Ezra and Waldo standing guard, he couldn't exactly do anything to Winona. He had no choice but to take Giselle and leave.

Once in the car, Giselle turned to him. "It really wasn't my fault. They were trying to frame me for a payout."

Smelling the alcohol on her, Sylvan sighed, feeling frustrated by her incompetence. "Go home and change your clothes immediately. If they actually call the cops, I'll stall them as long as I can so they don't find out you were drinking."

He didn't believe Giselle had done anything morally wrong; he just thought she was stupid for not knowing how to clean up her own mess.
