To him, as long as she was his daughter in name, nothing she did could ever be considered a mistake.
Relieved that he was willing to help her, Giselle let out a breath.
Once Greta's arm was set and treated, Winona drove her and Helena home.
Helena was still seething. "That girl went way too far. I guarantee you this isn't her first time driving drunk. If we don't teach her a lesson this time, who knows how many more people are going to get hurt."
"Don't worry," Winona reassured her. "I've already called the police, and there are traffic cameras on that street. She's not getting away with it."
But after arriving home, Winona received a call from the police officer.
They had brought Giselle in for questioning, but a breathalyzer showed zero alcohol in her system. Furthermore, the surveillance footage proved she hadn't been speeding.
Because the evidence was insufficient to file charges, the case couldn't move forward, and Giselle had already been sent home.
Hearing this, Winona's anger flared up all over again.
Sylvan must have pulled strings to cover for her again.
She immediately called Hayes to discuss the situation. "If we take her to court, what are our chances of winning?"
"Since the police didn't find any alcohol in her system after the incident, this won't be classified as a DUI or reckless driving," Hayes analyzed professionally. "And since the injuries weren't severe—no one was critically injured or killed—the court will most likely just order her to pay civil compensation. She won't face any criminal charges."
Winona pursed her lips.
Is she really going to get off scot-free?
When Stefan got home and noticed she was in a foul mood, he asked what happened.
Winona recounted the incident with Greta.
"Greta's just a little girl, and she had to suffer through all of that. Yet with Sylvan protecting her, Giselle gets to just walk away with zero consequences. It's completely infuriating."
Stefan thought for a moment. "We can't bring the law down on her just yet, but I have a way to help you blow off some steam."
"How?"
Stefan smiled. "You'll see in a couple of days. Let's get you something to eat first."
After her late-night snack, Winona went for another walk with Stefan.
She screamed for help.
But the man who had just been drinking with her was nowhere to be found.
Her head was heavy, her body felt like lead, and she slowly sank into the water.
Just as the terrifying sensation of death closed in, someone finally dragged her out.
When Sylvan received the news that she had nearly drowned while drunk and had been rushed to the ICU, he was utterly bewildered.
He knew she loved to party and drink, and he didn't care about that. But he never expected her to end up hospitalized because of it.
He felt no sympathy for her—only annoyance.
"Does she have no brain at all? If she has so much free time to get wasted, she should be spending it with Wynne. Good thing this didn't make the news, or it would be my reputation on the line!"
He didn't even bother going to see her. He just sent his assistant. "Tell her that once she recovers, she needs to quit drinking. If she doesn't, I'm cutting off her monthly allowance."
"Yes, sir."
