The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 651

When Giselle woke up, her head throbbed as if it might split open. Because she'd undergone CPR, her chest felt as though her ribs were broken, and every time she swallowed, her throat burned like she was gulping down glass.

The caregiver Sylvan Scully had hired noticed she was awake and immediately called the doctor in to examine her.

After the checkup, the caregiver reminded her, "Mr. Scully said you shouldn't tell your mother about your drunken drowning incident. If she asks, just say you were away on a business trip. Also, Mr. Scully expects you to quit drinking, or he'll cut off your monthly bonus."

Giselle couldn't care less. Once she inherited Wynne's shares, a measly bonus of a few thousand dollars wouldn't even register on her radar.

However, her body was undeniably weak. She really did need to lay off the alcohol for a while.

She tried to recall the moments right before she drowned, but her head pounded too fiercely, forcing her to abandon the thought.

Meanwhile, Winona learned from Ezra Vane that Giselle had nearly drowned while drunk and had only narrowly been snatched back from the jaws of death after emergency resuscitation at the hospital.

She asked Ezra, "Did Stefan order this?"

Ezra nodded. "It was a clean job. Even if Sylvan Scully and Giselle look into it, they won't find a shred of evidence. The whole thing will just be ruled an accident."

Winona didn't think Stefan had done anything wrong; in fact, she thought Giselle had gotten off too easy.

Greta needed her bandages changed, but Helena was too busy at the shop to take her. So, Winona and Stefan took time off work to accompany the little girl.

Because of her previous accident, Greta still had a lingering fear of cars.

Stefan and Winona each held one of her hands, providing her with a much-needed sense of security.

At the hospital, Greta gritted her teeth, enduring the pain as her dressings were changed.

Winona's heart ached for her. When it was over, she gave Greta some candy as a reward.

She also promised, "I'll take you to the aquarium this weekend."

Greta's wound still stung, but she was too mature to cause trouble for the adults. "Okay," she said bravely.

Stefan chimed in, "There's a kid-friendly restaurant nearby. Let's go there for a bite."

Greta had eaten there before and knew they gave out mystery toy boxes with the meals.

A look of anticipation sparked in her eyes, and a genuine smile finally broke across her face.

Hearing she was in the hospital, Yulen stopped by after work.

Seeing him walk in, Giselle felt a genuine flicker of joy.

Yulen helped her sit up and placed the dinner he had brought on the overbed table.

Giselle had skipped lunch, and her stomach was growling. Seeing the lavish spread, she picked up her silverware and began to eat.

When she finished, Yulen poured her a glass of water.

Taking a sip, Giselle smiled. "Yulen, I never expected you to be so caring. Winona must have been incredibly happy when she was with you."

Yulen froze.

When he and Winona first got together, he truly had been attentive.

But as they settled into their 'marriage,' the dynamic shifted, and Winona ended up taking care of him far more. He had grown so accustomed to her care that he began to take it for granted, frequently ignoring her needs altogether.
