Karina realized that despite arguing for ages, she hadn't actually solved anything.
Winona, on the other hand, had effortlessly intimidated the guy with just a few words, locked onto the crux of the issue, and forced building management to deal with it—all without ever lowering herself to bicker with trash.
Secretly, she couldn't help but be impressed. Winona really was brilliant.
Feeling like she hadn't been of any actual help, and knowing Winona couldn't stand her, Karina prepared to slip away quietly.
Suddenly, Winona called out to her, "You've been shouting for a while. Come inside and have some water."
Karina spun around, her face lighting up. "You're letting me inside?"
Winona didn't answer; she just walked straight into the apartment.
But she left the door wide open. The message couldn't have been clearer.
Grinning from ear to ear, Karina walked in.
Yulen stepped out from the shadows of the hallway.
He had heard the commotion from downstairs and had initially rushed up, worried Winona was getting bullied.
But after watching her handle the situation with flawless composure—showing not a single trace of fear—he felt both surprised and utterly out of control.
He suddenly realized that in the time they had been apart, Winona had grown tremendously.
She was no longer the simple-minded girl who was terrified of conflict and deeply dependent on others.
Her independence had solidified, which meant there was no way she would ever willingly become just an appendage to a man.
Didn't this prove that her relationship with Stefan was more than just a casual fling?
They were genuinely in an equal, committed relationship.
That realization sent a wave of suffocating jealousy tearing through him.
He could accept her having a little fun with Stefan, but he absolutely couldn't accept that it was real.
If she truly fell in love with Stefan, then what did her past with Yulen even mean?
He couldn't accept the fact that, to her, he was entirely history.
She offered again, "I can help look after the cat, too."
Winona washed her hands, poured herself a glass of water, and walked back to the couch.
Karina knew that being let inside didn't mean Winona was going to wait on her hand and foot, so she intuitively went to get her own water.
Winona asked her, "You aren't qualified to do R&D in the lab, but if you want, you can interview for an assistant position."
Stefan had mentioned it to her before, but left the final decision entirely in her hands.
Winona hadn't initially planned to give Karina the time of day, but given her decent behavior today, she was willing to offer her a single chance.
Karina's eyes went wide. "You're willing to let me be your assistant?"
Winona replied coolly, "You have to go through the standard interview process. Pass it, and then we'll talk."
Karina felt a brief flash of disappointment, but she quickly perked back up.
As long as Winona was willing to give her a shot, she had a real chance of getting her foot in the door.
