Sylvan Scully flipped through a few event proposals before looking up at his assistant. "Stardust Hotel is the best venue in Riverton. Why isn't my daughter's birthday party being held there?"
The assistant replied hesitantly, "We contacted Stardust Hotel, but they refused to let us book the space for the party."
Sylvan frowned. "We're paying top dollar. Why would they refuse? Did you communicate with them properly?"
The assistant hesitated for a long moment before admitting, "Mr. Goddard is the largest shareholder of Stardust Hotel. The manager heavily implied that the refusal came directly from him."
Sylvan hadn't expected Stefan to be the one blocking his plans.
He texted Stefan, asking why he was refusing to rent out the venue.
Stefan didn't reply.
Sylvan called twice. Both went to voicemail.
It wasn't until the third try that the call finally connected.
"Do you need something, Mr. Scully?"
Ignoring the icy tone, Sylvan asked, "Stefan, I want to host Giselle's birthday party at Stardust. Why are you refusing to rent me the space?"
Stefan seemed busy on the other end. After a brief pause, he answered, "No reason."
Sylvan felt like Stefan was just being intentionally difficult.
"Stefan, Giselle is Wynne's child too. Even if you won't do it as a favor to me, shouldn't you at least do it out of respect for Wynne?"
Stefan couldn't comprehend why Sylvan was putting so much effort into a fake daughter.
Maybe Sylvan just wanted to perform his phony father-of-the-year routine for a crowd.
"I don't owe you an explanation for this. If that's all, Mr. Scully, I'm hanging up."
Listening to the dead line, Sylvan was furious.
He remembered a time when his relationship with Stefan hadn't been this hostile. At the very least, Stefan wouldn't go out of his way to create friction over something so trivial.
Stefan's drastic change in attitude had to be Winona's doing.
That woman really was an absolute menace.
After Giselle was discharged from the hospital, her weak health forced her to stop staying up late and going out drinking with her friends.
Though her days were painfully boring, the thought of her upcoming birthday party filled her with an electric thrill.
Shortly after, elite heavyweights who never interacted with Giselle—like Dean Ziegler and leading industry researchers—flocked to Winona's comment section, engaging in a high-level academic discussion.
Even colleagues like Zack Charlton, who notoriously ignored everyone's social media, left thoughtful comments.
Giselle instantly felt entirely deflated.
Couldn't they see that her life was infinitely more glamorous than Winona's?
What was the point of constantly talking about work and academic theories?
These people were so boring! They had absolutely no taste!

Karina passed the written exam and officially joined the lab as Winona's assistant.
Thrilled, she immediately called Winona.
"Winona, I'll be clocking in on Monday!"
Winona gave a noncommittal hum, keeping her tone strictly professional. "My probation requirements are extremely strict. If you don't meet the standard, you'll be let go in three months."
