Winona's cold warning instantly ignited Karina's competitive spirit.
She immediately promised, "Don't worry, Winona! I'm going to work harder than anyone."
After hanging up, Winona went right back to work.
When Killian heard that Karina had been hired, and specifically as Winona's assistant, he was visibly shocked. "Winona, aren't you worried that her terrible character is going to bring absolute disaster down on our lab?"
Winona replied calmly, "Her father invested a massive amount of money. If she dares to sabotage the team, she's literally burning her own family's cash. I figure she's at least smart enough to realize that."
That evening, when Winona got home, she found Karina already waiting by the front door.
She was holding several heavy bags, looking completely exhausted.
Winona looked at her. "What are you doing here?"
Karina grinned. "Bringing gifts to bribe my boss, obviously!"
Winona replied flatly, "I don't accept bribes."
"Haha, it's not a bribe! I'm just trying to suck up to my future family."
Suddenly, someone tapped her on the back of the head.
It was Stefan, who had just gotten home.
"Karina, unless it's strictly related to work, stop bothering Winona."
Karina let out a dramatic sigh. "Stefan, why don't you ever believe me? I am one hundred percent on Team Winona now! You know how I operate—I'm only awful to people I hate. When it comes to my own people, I am fiercely loyal."
Stefan replied coldly, "You're giving me a headache."
He glanced down at the bags she was holding. They were stuffed with expensive wine, imported snacks, and high-end health supplements.
"What is all this junk? Take your stuff and go home."
But Karina clung to the spot like superglue.
Eventually, through sheer persistence, she successfully squeezed her way inside to crash their dinner.
Lexie, surprised to see them home so early, smiled warmly. "Since Ms. Shepherd is here, I'll go whip up a couple more dishes."
Karina was over the moon. Had her relentless sucking up finally won Stefan's approval?
Seeing that the steamed egg was completely gone, Lexie, worried that Winona wasn't getting enough nutrients, quickly steamed another bowl and brought it out.
Winona and Stefan exchanged a single glance, then, in perfect synchronization, slid the new bowl directly over to Karina.
Having already devoured one bowl of eggs, a large bowl of rice, and a massive amount of food, Karina was completely stuffed.
She wanted to decline, but seeing the intense, encouraging looks in both Stefan and Winona's eyes, she felt too awkward to say no.
So, she forced herself to finish the second bowl.
When Lexie came back out and saw the empty bowl, she laughed warmly. "It seems you guys really love the steamed egg! I'll make sure to prepare it again tomorrow. And if you come over, Ms. Shepherd, I'll make a bowl especially for you."
Karina let out a massive burp, her brain finally catching up to the situation.
Wait a second...
Did they just force-feed her all those eggs because they were totally sick of eating them themselves?
