The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 661

Karina Shepherd reported for her first day at 9:00 AM on Monday.

Winona Jowett told her to familiarize herself with the workload first, then went to focus on her own tasks.

Finding the stack of project files incredibly dull, Karina spaced out for most of the day.

Shortly before clocking out, Winona asked her for a summary.

Karina looked bewildered. "I just spent the whole day reading through project files. I didn't actually do anything. What is there to summarize?"

"Did you not take any notes while reading?" Winona asked.

Seeing Karina's wide, confused eyes, Winona pulled out her own notebook, displaying the meticulous notes she had taken for every single project proposal she'd ever reviewed.

Karina flipped through a few pages, her eyes widening in shock. "Uh, do I really need to write down this much? If I could actually understand all this, I'd be writing the proposals myself, not working as an assistant."

Winona frowned. "Is your career goal really just to be an assistant, Karina?"

Karina scratched her head. "But I don't have the talent for this. I'm probably not cut out to be a researcher..."

"Then you need to put in the effort," Winona said, sounding less like her usual gentle self and more like a strict high school principal. "I don't hire assistants just for them to stay assistants forever. That's a waste of your time and mine."

She wanted to mold anyone she hired into a qualified R&D professional.

Karina suddenly realized that working for Winona wasn't going to be a walk in the park.

Seeing her hesitation, Winona added, "My standards are very high. If you're not up for it, you can process your resignation right now."

Karina gritted her teeth. "I want to do this."

But when he got a brilliant girlfriend in college, Karina was devastated. She lost all interest in her studies and bombed her core classes, which was why Mr. Bell had rejected her application for his graduate program.

Jasper hadn't expected a single day at work to light a fire under her again. He felt a profound sense of relief.

Winona certainly had a way with people. No wonder Stefan Goddard was so taken with her.

Jasper knew his own limits. He was soft-hearted and lacked the ruthlessness needed to sustain the family business. He had to fight for his children's future, but he constantly worried they wouldn't be able to hold onto whatever he left them.

Seeing Karina finally pushing herself put his mind at ease.

Thank God he had recognized Winona's excellence early on. Even if his daughter didn't learn all of Winona's skills, just hitching her wagon to Winona's star meant she'd never be taken advantage of again.

The next morning, Karina eagerly submitted her summary report. She had stayed up until 3:00 AM revising it over and over.
