The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 669

That evening, Winona stopped by her aunt Helena's shop.

Helena handed her a massive haul: a bag of lychees, pumpkin pastries, and a whole watermelon.

Winona laughed. "What's with all the food?"

"The owner of the pastry shop next door gave it to me," Helena explained. "His grandson was playing outside and got pushed over by some older kids. Greta chased them off with a stick and carried the little boy back. The owner was so grateful he gave me a mountain of food. I shared some with my coworkers, but there's still a ton left."

Winona looked at Greta with a warm smile. "You are such a brave girl. Great job."

Greta smiled shyly.

"But your arm is still healing," Winona pointed out. "Was it safe for you to carry him?"

Greta, who was used to hauling heavy boxes around her mother's shop, puffed out her chest. "He's only five! He's light. I could carry him with one arm."

The entire neighborhood had been calling Greta a little hero and showering her with snacks, leaving the tough little girl feeling surprisingly bashful.

Helena didn't see anything wrong with her daughter fighting off a bunch of boys.

Who said girls had to be fragile? Teaching her to fight back against injustice meant she'd never let anyone walk all over her when she grew up.

Winona had Ezra help carry the food to the car.

Helena handed Ezra a separate bag of lychees and pastries. "You were a huge help when my ex-husband caused trouble last time. Thank you."

"Just doing my job, ma'am," Ezra smiled politely.

When they got home, Winona asked Ezra to put the watermelon and pastries in the fridge while leaving the lychees on the counter for later.

"Why did you buy so much fruit?" Lexie asked.

"My aunt gave it to me."

"Well, Mrs. Powell also had someone drop off boxes of lychees, oranges, and dragon fruit earlier," Lexie chuckled. "I put them in the fridge."
