When Winona got back to her office, her phone rang. It was Hayes Yarwood.

"Winona, Stefan called me last night," Hayes said smoothly. "He put me on retainer to handle the liquidation of your shares, and I'll be liaising with the short-sellers and the financial regulators regarding the Locke Group's cooked books. Everything is locked and loaded. Just say the word."

Winona felt another wave of warmth at Stefan's meticulous care.

Even though he was halfway across the world, he had preemptively paved the road for her.

After her afternoon card game, Willow found out that every elite socialite in her circle had received an invitation to Giselle Reed's birthday bash next Tuesday.

Giselle laughed, sounding perfectly innocent. "Well, since I couldn't help with the Locke Group's recent project crisis, Yulen has been really cold to me. I got the feeling he had an issue with me, so I didn't want to make things awkward by inviting the Locke family."

Willow thought about the massive scale of the party Sylvan Scully was throwing for Giselle. He was pouring a fortune into it, flying in the most influential power players from Riverton and the capital. It was a golden networking opportunity.

She immediately decided Yulen was being completely unreasonable. Just because Giselle couldn't fix his corporate mess didn't mean he had the right to throw a tantrum and alienate her.

Willow rushed to apologize. "Oh, that is entirely Yulen's fault! I will have a serious talk with him. We have such a wonderful relationship, Giselle, there's no reason to let a tiny misunderstanding ruin that. I've already bought your birthday present, and I've been so excited to celebrate with you!"

Giselle wasn't about to turn down someone so desperate to flatter her. "Of course! I'll have an invitation sent over right away. But please, if Yulen doesn't want to come, don't force him."
