The director of this upscale private hospital was a close friend of Stefan's, and the chief obstetrician had been specially transferred from the capital just for Winona. Knowing she was in such capable hands put her completely at ease.
As fate would have it, Giselle was at the exact same hospital for a consultation on her botched nose job.
While waiting for her appointment, Giselle was shocked to see Winona walking down the hall.
A nurse hurried up to Winona, handed her a thick medical file, and watched as Winona turned and headed toward the exit.
Giselle's instincts flared. She quietly tailed the nurse, watching as the woman slipped back through double doors marked *Obstetrics & Gynecology*.
Giselle's mind raced. Was Winona pregnant?
Was she hiding it from everyone, planning to wait until she was showing before using the baby as leverage to force her way into an elite marriage?
*What a manipulative bitch,* Giselle sneered to herself.
Winona loved to parade around as this fiercely independent career woman, but behind closed doors, she was using the oldest, cheapest trick in the book to climb the social ladder.
There was no way Giselle was going to let her get away with it.

When Winona returned home, she was surprised to find Wynne Walden waiting for her.
Wynne had brought bags of premium fruits and maternity-friendly snacks.
After meticulously organizing everything in the pantry, Wynne sat down on the sofa next to Winona.
"Did you just get back from your checkup? Let me see the report."
Winona pulled the ultrasound scan from her bag and handed it over.
Wynne traced the grainy image with her fingers, her face glowing with pure maternal warmth.
The thought that she was going to be a grandmother in nine months filled her with an overwhelming, breathless excitement.
But the shadow of whoever was secretly pulling Giselle's strings still haunted Wynne. She was terrified for Winona's safety.
She silently prayed they would flush out the mastermind before Giselle's birthday party.
Lexie had taken the day off, leaving the kitchen empty. Winona turned to Wynne. "Mom... I mean, Wynne. Do you want to go out for dinner?"
Wynne smiled brightly. "I'd love to! Let me make a reservation. I've been exploring Riverton's culinary scene, and I know exactly which places serve the best food for pregnant women."
Winona chuckled softly. "Perfect."
They drove to a highly-rated local restaurant.
