Sylvan desperately wanted to demand another DNA test, but doing so right now would only detonate Wynne's temper. He'd have to do it secretly later.
The guests were practically vibrating. They had come for a posh birthday party and ended up front-row for the scandal of the decade.
Willow's face cycled through several shades of pale. "Impossible," she muttered. "How could she come from a family like that?"
Yulen stared at Winona, a hurricane of conflicting emotions twisting in his chest.
Wynne reached for the pen her lawyer offered.
Giselle felt her vision go red. "No! She's a fraud! I'm your daughter!" she shrieked, lunging forward. The wealth, the status—it was supposed to be hers! She wasn't going back to being nobody!
Before she could reach the stage, Ezra and Waldo grabbed her arms, hauling her back.
Watching Winona and Wynne sign the transfer papers, Giselle's eyes filled with venomous tears. The taste of copper flooded her mouth. She had been so close. Her fairytale life had just been violently ripped away. She slumped to the floor, staring blankly at her designer heels, completely broken.
Ignoring the hysterical woman on the floor, Wynne beamed at the crowd. "Now, let's cut the cake!" She looked toward the audience. "Forrest, come up here!"
With confident, easy strides, Forrest joined them on stage.
Standing side by side, Wynne, Winona, and Forrest looked undeniably like a family.
