"Scientific research requires a grounded moral compass," Jericho noted, swirling his glass. "She let her greed dictate her actions, and it destroyed her."
Winona didn't add anything. Giselle was facing years in prison—that was closure enough for her.
After dinner, she headed through the restaurant lobby and practically ran straight into Sylvan.
Gone was the arrogant, overbearing billionaire; he looked at her with the nauseatingly gentle eyes of a doting father. "Winona! Out with friends?"
"Yes," she replied coolly, sidestepping him to leave.
He matched her pace. "It's late. Let my driver take you home."
"I'm fine. Stefan already sent a car."
Sylvan, who used to threaten Stefan to stay away from her, was suddenly his biggest fan. "That's wonderful. He treats you so well. You two have been together for a while now—when is he going to put a ring on it? If his family tries to give you grief, just say the word. Dad will handle them."
Thinking back to the horrific insults he used to hurl at her, Winona felt a spike of revulsion. This whole "protective dad" act was entirely fake. He only cared because she shared his DNA. It was the exact same reason he had blindly protected a monster like Giselle. He was an arrogant hypocrite who only valued his own bloodline.
"My relationship with Stefan is none of your business," she snapped, walking out the door.
Sylvan wasn't fazed by her cold shoulder. She was his daughter. A little teenage rebellion was normal. Once he showered her with enough penthouses and trust funds, she'd come around.
The real priority was getting her married into the Goddard family as quickly as possible. Cohabiting without a ring was a bad look. Plus, an alliance between the Goddard Group and the Scully Group would secure Forrest's future reign as CEO perfectly.
