Winona and Forrest exchanged confused glances. It wasn't until they got home that evening that they understood what Ryder meant.

He was gifting them each a clean five percent stake in the Powell Group.

Realizing the sheer magnitude of the gift, Winona immediately called her mother.

"You call him 'Dad,' don't you?" Wynne laughed warmly over the phone. "He genuinely sees you both as his children. Just accept it, sweetheart. Don't overthink it."

Hanging up, Winona couldn't help but marvel at the irony. Ryder wasn't just a far better husband than Sylvan; he was proving to be an infinitely better father, too.

As the weather began to cool, Winona left work early to do some shopping. She picked out a couple of winter coats for Stefan and, noticing the men's department nearby, selected a sharp coat and a matching tie for Ryder. He treated her like a daughter, so she wanted to show him the same care.

Coincidentally, Sylvan was in the same boutique trying on clothes. He spotted Winona at the register paying for a men's coat and tie.

A smug smile crept onto his face. His daughter really did care about him. She might act cold, but deep down, she was still looking out for him. The temperature was dropping, and she was already buying him winter clothes. How thoughtful.

He set down the jacket he had been trying on.

"Is this one not to your liking, Mr. Scully?" the sales associate asked. "Would you like to try something else?"

Sylvan pointed proudly toward the exit where Winona had just left. "No need. My daughter just bought me a coat. I'm all set for today."

The associate glanced at the door, thoroughly confused. The jacket that young woman had purchased was clearly a completely different size than Sylvan's.

Winona had the coats dry-cleaned before bringing them home. She hung Stefan's in their closet and asked Wynne to pass Ryder's over to him.

"He's going to be absolutely thrilled when he finds out you bought this for him," Wynne smiled.
