Sylvan's face stiffened into a rigid mask.
"You're joking, Mr. Harper," Sylvan said, forcing a tight smile. "Winona is my only daughter. Why would I take in anyone else? Finding Giselle to act as a stand-in was only meant to bring Wynne some comfort."
"Is that so? Because the way you pampered Giselle certainly didn't look like an act. You poured a fortune into her, even actively sabotaging Winona's career to hand her opportunities on a silver platter. The fact that Winona even speaks to you at all means you should be counting your blessings."
Sylvan was left speechless, his face flushing violently through shades of red and pale humiliation.
Jericho calmly took his seat and continued throwing veiled jabs as he ate. During the initial phases of the PD-1 project, Winona had poured her heart and soul into the research, only for Sylvan to forcibly intervene and try to replace her with Giselle. Jericho was still furious about it. Winona might have moved past it, but Jericho held a legendary grudge.
By the time Jericho and Killian had finished their meal, Sylvan had barely touched his food.
Hesitating, Sylvan finally pushed his pride aside. "Mr. Harper, the flowers and the jewelry... they're for Winona. Could you please pass them on to her for me?"
Jericho flat-out refused. "Winona finds even sharing a room with you exhausting. She's definitely not going to accept your gifts. If you really want the girl to stop despising you, Mr. Scully, your best bet is to stop forcing your presence on her."
The rejection hit Sylvan like a physical blow.
He had spent immense amounts of time and money searching for his twins. He truly believed that with his astronomical wealth and social standing, his children would leap at the chance to accept him. He never anticipated that simply having a conversation with them would be this impossible.
