"In a few months, your back is going to start aching. When that happens, you need to avoid sitting for too long, or it'll just make the pain worse," Stefan said, his voice deep and gentle.
He had been relentlessly researching pregnancy advice online and consulting top doctors, determined to do whatever he could to ease her discomfort.
Winona smiled softly. "I make sure to get up and walk around every thirty minutes at the office. I can hide it from my coworkers for now, but in another two months, there's no way I'll be able to conceal it."
Stefan removed the towel and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "When you can't hide it anymore, we just go public."
Winona laughed. "They're going to be so shocked. And your mother is definitely going to throw the fit of the century."
Stefan didn't care in the slightest about Margaret's opinions.
"Her personality makes her entirely unfit to be around children. No matter how much of a scene she makes, I won't let her anywhere near the baby."
The next day, Stefan and Winona took Nikita to the hospital for her check-up.
Nikita's health was steadily improving, which was a huge relief for Winona.
Caught in the phase of life where she had to care for both the older generation and prepare for the next, she just wanted her family to stay healthy to lighten the emotional load.
Tallulah happened to be at the hospital as well.
She hadn't given up on her fertility treatments, still desperately hoping to conceive.
As she walked through the lobby, she spotted Winona, Stefan, and Nikita together.
Tallulah froze.
Back when she and Yulen were still in love, he used to accompany her family to the hospital, too.
Tallulah knew what that meant—when a man loved you, he loved your family by extension.
Seeing Stefan taking time out of his day to accompany Nikita proved just how deeply he valued Winona.
Tallulah had always assumed Stefan held absolute power in their dynamic and wouldn't invest real emotions into someone like Winona. She never expected him to be this devoted.
A sour, bitter feeling washed over her. *Men are all the same,* she told herself. *They're incredibly attentive in the beginning, but eventually, they get bored and stop trying.*
Winona would inevitably experience the same coldness and neglect she was living through now. It was only a matter of time.
