Another month flew by.
Due to the intense hormone medication, Winona had put on a few pounds. Her clothes fit a bit snugger, though her face remained as striking as ever.
Karina Shepherd was the first to point it out, teasingly asking, "Is this what they call 'happy weight'?"
Winona had recently bought a whole new wardrobe of looser clothing. Even though she would happily trade her figure for the safety of her baby, she was still a woman who cared about her appearance. Watching her body change so rapidly brought on a wave of quiet insecurity.
At night, when Stefan kissed her, she found herself holding back, feeling uncharacteristically shy.
Stefan caught onto her sudden self-consciousness immediately. In response, he became completely insatiable. He texted her constantly throughout the day, and at night, his affection bordered on obsessive.
Sometimes, breathless and dizzy from his kisses, Winona would whisper, "Do you think I've gotten fat?"
Stefan would just laugh against her skin. "You've grown curvier, and it's driving me crazy. Every time I hold you, I can barely keep my hands to myself."
Whenever the insecurity crept in, his intense, desperate need for her completely obliterated it.
His constant, clingy reassurance made her feel safe, fully anchoring her back to reality.
Saturday afternoon, Winona finished reviewing some documents and stretched her arms over her head.
Wearing a soft pink slip dress, she walked into the living room just as Stefan returned from walking Biscuit.
Caught in a sudden downpour, his white t-shirt was soaked through, clinging to his chest and highlighting every defined muscle.
He pulled the ruined shirt over his head and tossed it aside before heading into the bathroom.
When he walked out a few minutes later, he had nothing but a towel slung low on his hips.
Noticing Winona staring at him, utterly transfixed, a slow, wicked grin spread across his face. He walked over, scooped her effortlessly into his arms, and dropped her onto the couch. "Are you trying to seduce me?"
Winona playfully swatted his chest.
"No."
He leaned down, trailing open-mouthed kisses along her throat.
"Well, I want you."
He was incredibly gentle with her.
Lately, Winona noticed he spent an obscene amount of time kissing just below her collarbone.
"Once the baby gets here," he murmured against her skin, "am I still going to get my share of attention down here?"
Her face flushed burning red.
