The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 779

Ophelia smiled, a cold, calculated curve of her lips. "If you pull this off seamlessly, I will buy you a luxury condo downtown. Cash."

The waitress swallowed hard, her morals instantly crumbling under the weight of her greed. She could work for the rest of her life and never afford a broom closet in the Capital. And this woman was offering her a multi-million dollar apartment. She gave a jerky nod. "Okay. I'll do it."

Hidden in the alcove just a few feet away, Waldo Vane recorded the entire exchange. As Stefan's most trusted operative, he was always watching. He quickly pulled out his phone and texted Stefan a full report. Across the ballroom, Stefan felt his phone buzz. He read the text, his eyes darkening to obsidian. He typed back a single, chilling command.

Meanwhile, Wynne was happily parading Winona around the room, introducing her to a parade of influential Walden and Powell relatives. After all the talking, Winona felt parched. Right on cue, a waitress approached with a silver tray and offered her a glass of fresh juice. Without a second thought, Winona took a long sip.

From across the room, Ophelia watched the glass leave Winona's lips. A triumphant, wicked smile spread across her face. It was done. Feeling victorious, Ophelia picked up her own glass of juice and took a leisurely, celebratory sip.

But as the hour ticked by, Winona remained perfectly fine, laughing and chatting with the guests. Ophelia's brow furrowed in confusion.

Suddenly, a blinding, agonizing cramp ripped through her abdomen. She gasped, doubling over as cold sweat broke out across her forehead. The pain was unbearable, tearing through her insides until her vision swam with black spots. She collapsed to the marble floor.

When Ophelia finally blinked her eyes open, she was staring at a sterile white hospital ceiling. Daisy was sitting beside the bed, her face pale. "Ophelia? Thank God you're awake."

Ophelia stared at her, disoriented. A dull, throbbing ache radiated from her stomach. Daisy choked back a sob, explaining the horrific truth. The juice Ophelia drank had been laced with a massive dose of chemical abortifacients. For a woman who wasn't pregnant, the severe hemorrhaging had caused irreversible damage to her uterus. It was highly unlikely she would ever be able to conceive.
