Yulen felt like a knife had just been twisted directly into his heart. He stared at Winona in pure disbelief. "If you could do this for him—have a child without a ring or a title—why couldn't you do it for me back then?"
Winona let out a sharp scoff. "He is nothing like you. He doesn't keep a rotation of other women around, and you are a cheating scumbag. Yulen, drop the victim act. The one who betrayed our relationship was you."
Yulen returned home looking like a shattered shell of a man.
Willow had just finished scolding Tallulah when she saw her son walk through the door. "Yulen, what's wrong?"
Tallulah turned to look at him as well. She immediately noticed that his eyes were dead and hollow, completely different from how he'd looked that morning. It was as if his soul had been sucked dry.
Seeing her son standing there motionless and mute, Willow panicked and reached out to feel his forehead.
The moment her hand made contact, her heart dropped.
"You're burning up! Yulen, why didn't you tell me you had a fever? We need to get you to the hospital right now!"
Yulen opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
He didn't even know what was happening to him. His limbs felt like lead, and his brain was absolute mush. He could see the shock and fear on his mother's and Tallulah's faces, but he couldn't form the words to respond to them.
The world around him began to tilt and spin until, finally, his legs gave out. His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed onto the floor.
Willow shrieked, frantically ordering the housekeeper to help drag her son out to the car.
She rode with him to the emergency room, clutching his arm the entire way, screaming his name over and over. But Yulen remained entirely unresponsive.
Tallulah was worried too, but Willow's hysterical shrieking was giving her a migraine. Her own mind was a chaotic mess, and she felt paralyzed, unsure of what to do.
At the hospital, after a blur of tests, IV drips, and medication...
Yulen's fever still stubbornly refused to break.
