Just as she was dialing, Helena called her back, her voice laced with absolute panic.

"Winona! Your mother-in-law just showed up and snatched Audrey! I am so furious—she practically ambushed us! You and Stefan need to get the baby back right now! God knows where she's taking her!"

Winona's heart plummeted into her stomach.

Sure, Margaret was technically the baby's grandmother, but Winona trusted that woman as far as she could throw her.

"My mother probably brought her straight back to the Capital," Stefan said, keeping his voice steady to calm her. "I'm heading to the estate right now. Don't panic. I will bring our daughter home safe."

Despite his reassurance, Winona was sick with terror. "Just hurry. Please."

Stefan abruptly walked out of his board meeting and drove straight to the Goddard estate.

Ever since Audrey was born, his entire world had revolved around his daughter. He hadn't spoken to his mother in months. He never expected her to pull a stunt like this.

As he walked through the front doors of the estate, the sound of Audrey's high-pitched wailing hit him. His chest tightened painfully.

He strode into the living room and saw Margaret clumsily holding a screaming Audrey, while a new nanny knelt on the floor, frantically picking up shards of a shattered baby bottle. Daisy Falconer was sitting nearby, uselessly trying to coo at the distressed infant.

Stefan's eyes darkened instantly. He had no idea when his mother and Daisy had become so close, but he didn't care.
