The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 806

Over the past few days, Daisy Falconer and Wanda Zeller had been taking turns visiting Margaret, drinking tea, listening to her complain, and feeding her ego.

Margaret had gradually come to see Daisy as a confidante. In fact, it was Daisy who had planted the idea in Margaret's head to go down to Riverton and take the baby.

Pouring Margaret another cup of tea, Daisy sighed sympathetically. "Margaret, you are the matriarch. If you let them walk all over you now, who in this house will ever respect you? Besides, not only does Winona refuse to join the family properly, but she's also completely stolen Stefan away, raising the child in some other city. Do you know how humiliating the gossip is? The truth is, you're just too soft-hearted. When old Mrs. Shepherd ran her household, she was ruthless. You're a Shepherd by blood—surely you inherited some of her steel?"

The flattery worked perfectly. Margaret felt validated.

Daisy was right. She had been too lenient with Winona and Stefan, allowing them to publicly humiliate her over and over again.

"I need to find a way to fix this," Margaret muttered.

Daisy smiled faintly. "Stefan is only so bold because he knows Winona has him wrapped around her finger. I actually have an idea, if you're willing to hear it?"

Margaret looked up. "What kind of idea? Tell me."

Daisy slid a photograph across the table. "This is Liana Linden, the youngest daughter of the Linden family."

Margaret picked up the photo. The girl looked sweet, docile, and quite pretty. "Which Linden family?"

"Trillium Group."

Margaret nodded slowly. "That's acceptable. Trillium Group has been expanding aggressively lately. They're barely qualified to ally with us, but given Stefan's 'situation,' would the Lindens even agree to it?"

"If you successfully break up Stefan and Winona, then Stefan is just a wealthy bachelor with a daughter from an ex. The Lindens would absolutely accept that. It's practically standard in our circles. But the real advantage is Ms. Linden's specific... condition."
