"Ryder wasn't feeling well, so he's at the hospital running some tests. I need to stay with him for the next few days, so I won't be able to come over and help with Audrey," Wynne said, her voice laced with exhaustion.
Winona was immediately concerned. "Mom, I'll bring Audrey to visit tomorrow. Make sure you get some rest too, don't run yourself into the ground."
"I will. You two stay warm, the weather's freezing right now. Don't catch a cold."
After they hung up, Stefan had the nanny take Audrey for her bath before walking over to Winona. "What's wrong?"
"Mr. Powell was admitted to the hospital. I'm taking Audrey to see him tomorrow," Winona replied.
Ever since Ryder was severely injured in that accident, his health hadn't fully bounced back.
"The medical facilities in the capital are the best in the country," Stefan reassured her. "He'll be fine. Don't worry too much."
Winona nodded.
The next day, Stefan joined Winona and Audrey for the hospital visit.
Ryder looked a bit pale but smiled warmly when they walked in. "I just had a minor dizzy spell yesterday. Wynne panicked and forced me to get admitted."
After years of marriage, Wynne knew him better than anyone.
Ryder had a habit of toughing out the pain so he wouldn't worry her.
That was exactly why she dragged him to the doctor the second he showed any symptoms.
Forrest Kane was there as well.
After spending time cutting his teeth at the corporation, his demeanor had grown significantly more authoritative and grounded.
Winona had initially thought it was a shame he abandoned his R&D career, but according to Wynne and Stefan, Forrest was actually a natural-born shark in the boardroom. Under his leadership, the Powell Group was steadily regaining its footing.
At noon, they all had lunch together in the VIP suite.
Audrey sat on Stefan's lap, clutching her milk bottle, her big eyes darting between Ryder and Forrest.
Finally, she locked eyes with Forrest, wiggled off Stefan's lap, and waddled over, raising her arms to be picked up.
Forrest laughed, lifting her up and setting her on his knee.
Audrey flashed a triumphant, gummy smile.
Wynne teased, "Looks like somebody really likes her Uncle Forrest."
Audrey nodded very seriously. "Like him. Uncle is handsome."
