With everyone gone, a heavy silence settled over the hospital room.
Winona looked at Margaret, lying motionless on the bed, and let out a tired sigh. "Stefan, your mother really did take that vase and smash it against her own head. Do you truly believe me?"
He nodded. "Of course. My mother's favorite tactic is using self-harm to threaten people. Smashing a vase on her own head is exactly the kind of unhinged stunt she'd pull."
"But she took it way too far this time," Winona murmured. "Wasn't she afraid she might not wake up?"
"She never thinks about the consequences."
While Stefan was genuinely concerned for his mother's well-being, Winona's emotional state was just as important to him.
"I'm taking you home to get some rest. There are plenty of nurses and private caregivers here. She'll be fine."
They headed back to the house together.
Audrey looked up, surprised to see them home in the middle of the day.
Stefan gently cupped his daughter's soft, round cheeks. "Mommy isn't feeling well, so I brought her home to rest. Let's give her some quiet time, okay?"
Audrey nodded obediently, her big eyes locked on Winona with evident concern.
Winona stepped aside to call Yvonne, letting her know she wouldn't be returning to the office that afternoon and asking her to forward a few urgent files.
Stefan walked over and handed her a glass of warm water. Seeing that she was still in work mode, he softly urged, "Drink this. You need to rest."
Winona already had her laptop booted up. "I'm not tired yet. I'll sleep when I hit a wall."
Stefan let out a resigned sigh, knowing better than to argue when she was in the zone.
"I just checked my office security cameras," Winona noted, her brow furrowing. "Someone tampered with the system. The footage from the exact time your mother and Daisy came into my office has been wiped."
Stefan's eyes darkened with cold fury. His mother had really outdone herself this time.
He placed a hand on Winona's shoulder. "Deleted footage can be recovered. I'll send an IT expert to your office to retrieve it."
