To prepare for the Goddard Group project, Winona spent days poring over documents and conducting analyses. Jericho was so impressed with the report she submitted that he made her the project lead.
This new responsibility made her even more dedicated. She stayed up until two in the morning preparing the PowerPoint and speech for the next day's meeting.
The next day, she drove to the Goddard Group's Riverton branch and was guided by the receptionist to the conference room.
She opened her laptop and began copying over the files she had brought.
The Goddard Group employees assigned to the project, along with several members from her own lab, began to arrive.
Winona glanced at the time. Five minutes to go. She took a sip of water from her insulated bottle.
Just then, more people walked through the door.
Winona saw Yulen and Tallulah and froze. So the other company Goddard Group had chosen to partner with was Locke Group?
Tallulah, holding a folder of documents, gave her a defiant look.
Goddard Group had initially been reluctant to partner with Locke Group, but Paige's husband had some connections with one of their vice presidents. Through his intervention, Locke Group had secured the partnership.
Yulen hadn't expected to see Winona here, either. Jericho had extremely high standards for his lab members. How had Winona won him over? Was there something he didn’t know?
The memory of the expensive watch flashed in his mind. Had the owner of that watch gotten her into the lab?
At the thought, his expression darkened.
Winona paid no mind to Yulen and Tallulah's thoughts. She only wanted to deliver her presentation well and not embarrass her mentor.
After she finished, Nolan Archer, the head of the project from Goddard Group, smiled with satisfaction. Even Yulen found his opinion of Winona's research abilities changing.
Seeing Yulen's appreciative gaze on Winona, Tallulah grew resentful. She leaned in and whispered, "Mr. Harper must have revised her script and slides. Winona has only been doing real research for a short time. How could she present something so professional?"
"Thanks," Tallulah said sweetly. "I pulled all-nighters for a week straight."
"I'll make sure you're rewarded when we get back," Yulen promised.
When the meeting ended, Yulen intended to speak with Winona, but she exchanged a few words with the Goddard Group lead and left without giving him so much as a glance.
He was about to follow her when Nolan called out, "Mr. Locke, could I have a word?"
Yulen stopped and followed Nolan to another meeting room. "Nolan, is something wrong? Is there a problem with our project proposal?"
Nolan adjusted his glasses. "The proposal is fine," he said seriously. "However, I've reviewed Tallulah Shipley's profile. Is it really appropriate for you to appoint her as the contact person for this project?"
Yulen paused, then explained, "She may be young, but she studied pharmaceutical R&D and is quite capable. I hope you can give her a chance. Besides, isn't Mr. Jericho Harper's lab also represented by the very young Ms. Jowett?"
