The Wife He Ignored Became the Woman He Couldn't Reach novel Chapter 3

Sebastian let out a dismissive scoff.

His deep voice, heavy with alcohol and edged with sudden irritation, echoed clearly.-

"I never expected her to get pregnant. We'll see."

The words slashed through Serena's already battered heart like a serrated blade.

He didn't want this baby at all.

He was still in love with Gwen!

Fighting through the pain, Serena bolted out of the suffocating, humiliating atmosphere of the bar.

Not far away.

An unlicensed cab driver was staring blankly at his phone, completely oblivious to the road.

A nearby car suddenly merged, and to avoid a collision, the cab driver jerked his steering wheel violently toward the sidewalk.

The night was foggy, and visibility was terrible.

Serena had barely stepped out onto the curb when the speeding vehicle hurtled right at her.

A single thought flashed through her mind: This is the end.

...

When Serena slowly regained consciousness,

The harsh scent of antiseptic immediately assaulted her senses.

A doctor in a white coat was standing by her bed, ready to deliver her chart details.

"Miss, you're incredibly lucky."

"You were hit with severe force and lost a lot of blood, but we managed to stabilize you in time. You're out of the woods."

"However, regarding your pregnancy... Your health is already quite fragile, and the pregnancy was unstable to begin with. Add the blunt trauma and the severe blood loss..."

The doctor paused. Seeing her despondent expression, he assumed she was terrified for the baby and quickly offered reassurance.

He merely enjoyed the sadistic thrill of treating her like a loyal dog he could kick around.

The moment she fled that bar, she had made her choice.

She was going to divorce Sebastian.

And this unwanted, unloved child... she couldn't keep it either.

The doctor was visibly taken aback. He frowned, his tone shifting to one of absolute gravity.

"Miss, do you have any idea what it took to save this fetus? And now you're asking to terminate?"

"Furthermore, your body is incredibly weak. Given your recent blood loss, an abortion surgery right now could be fatal."

Serena blinked in shock, clearly not having factored that into her grim resolve.

"As your doctor, I have to be completely honest with you. Your uterine lining is perilously thin. If we wait until you're healthy enough to perform the procedure, there is a very high probability you will never be able to conceive again."

Every word out of the doctor's mouth was a lethal strike to Serena's shattered soul.
