Natalie didn't fully understand, but she squeezed his hand back anyway.
Adrian's presence didn't actually distract Natalie.
She picked up her phone and texted Marvin Ford.
"The Sheridan family asked me to stay for dinner, so you can head back first."
He replied almost immediately, "Then how are you getting back?"
"I'll figure something out when the time comes."
It wasn't exactly easy to hail a cab outside the Sheridan estate.
Natalie planned to ask Nancy Gaines later if she had time to pick her up.
At the dinner table, the Sheridans naturally seated Natalie next to Hassan Carlson.
Cora Vance and Jude Sheridan were originally supposed to sit together as well, but Jude, completely disregarding etiquette, publicly switched seats to sit next to Gardenia Sutton.
Natalie paused, her gaze sliding over to Cora.
Cora was gripping her porcelain spoon tightly.
Mia Sheridan suddenly spoke up: "Why isn't Daddy sitting next to Mommy?"
The little girl's words carried no hidden meaning, yet they felt like a public interrogation.
A man like Jude simply didn't care. He looked over with a teasing smile, "Because your daddy sits wherever he wants."
Mia lowered her head and stopped talking.
Cora held her tiny hand and rubbed it gently, placing food on her plate to coax her. "Mia, here's your favorite shrimp. Eat up."
Natalie's gaze unconsciously shifted to Gardenia. She didn't know just how charming Gardenia must have been back then to have completely bewitched two men like this.
The two Sheridan elders didn't look too pleased either, but they couldn't bear to reprimand their grandson.
Moreover, knowing the inside story, they were even more reluctant to scold him.
Jude hadn't always been the only heir. Before he turned fifteen, he had an older sister named Delia Sheridan. With their parents always busy working, he was closest to her.
