Stepping into his private sanctuary, she eagerly asked him, "Am I the first person to ever come here?"
Hassan changed his shoes and said casually, "No."
She froze, terrified that he had gotten a girlfriend. "Who was it then? Do I know her? Are... are you dating her?"
He was still quite youthful back then. Hearing her question, he couldn't help but laugh. "Me."
She paused, then immediately cheered up again. "Then am I the second?"
He went to the fridge to grab her favorite milk. "No."
"Huh?" She deflated entirely. "Then who was the second?"
"Jude Sheridan," he replied, then added, "Third was Yale Easton, then Jacob Holt, then Marvin Ford."
Natalie pouted. "Well, I must be the first girl to come here, right?"
He didn't argue with that.
He handed her the warmed milk from the microwave. "Drink this and go wash up. The blankets in the guest room are clean. Go to sleep early."
She was surprised. "I can stay here?"
He stared at her. "If you can make your own way back, you don't have to."
Of course, Natalie didn't want to go back. She wanted to stay with him. Being with him made her happy. She didn't even understand why herself—even if they didn't say a word, just looking at him made her inexplicably happy.
Back then, she didn't yet know what love really was.
Her childhood friends joked that she was hopelessly lovesick the moment she laid eyes on a handsome guy.
Natalie didn't care. If she could just look at him forever, she was perfectly fine being lovesick.
Her eyes suddenly felt stinging and dry. Fortunately, any sickness could be cured.
