Natalie felt a bit dazed. They actually shared so many memories together.
So many memories, yet it still wasn't enough to make him love her.
It turned out love really couldn't be forced, nor could it simply grow over time.
She took a deep breath, looking at the two of them walking ahead. Once they cleared the path, the area behind the academic building bordered a dense patch of trees, separated by a quiet trail with almost no one around.
Natalie stepped forward and grabbed Hassan's hand. His fingers were long and jade-like, carrying a slight chill.
His footsteps faltered, and he froze. It had been a long time since Natalie had initiated any contact like this. With her constantly demanding a divorce, a gesture like this felt like showing weakness.
Gardenia watched her naturally lace her fingers through his. Her expression stiffened, though she managed to keep her tone level. "I was so caught up reminiscing with Hassan that I completely forgot about you. I'm sorry."
Natalie leaned closer to him, pressing against his side as if returning to the past—back to being the young girl who possessed an overwhelming possessiveness over him. She glanced at Gardenia, then up at Hassan. "Since you two liked each other so much, why didn't you just get together back then?"
She knew full well they had never dated.
Given how relentlessly she used to cling to him, if he had gotten a girlfriend, there was no way she wouldn't have known.
A heavy silence settled between them.
Gardenia lowered her gaze and said softly, "Natalie, sometimes I really envy you. You're so naive, thinking you can just date whoever you want whenever you feel like it."
Natalie nodded. "You definitely should envy me. Because no matter what, if I like someone, I'll chase after them until they're mine."
She let out a cold laugh. "I don't wait until I've lost them to drown in regret, then pull some morally bankrupt stunts and parade it around as true love."
Gardenia's breathing hitched. She looked at Hassan. "Let's go. There's nothing more to say."
