The manager grabbed Natalie by the arm and yanked her to her feet. "I don't care how you're related to Tilda, this is internal company business. It's none of your damn business. And you had the nerve to walk in here and assault me? You want me to have you locked up?!"
Natalie stared her down dead in the eye. "I hit you because you assaulted her first."
The manager let out a shrill, mocking laugh. "Let me give you a reality check, little girl. Forget one slap—even if I beat her until she was hospitalized, there's absolutely nothing you could do about it. I am her boss. I can fire her whenever I want. What, you want her to lose her job? Why don't you ask her if that's what she wants first?"
Tilda's voice was sharp and desperate. "Let her go! She has nothing to do with me. This is my problem, and I'll handle it myself."
Tilda shoved between them, prying Natalie away from the manager. Glaring at her niece, she shoved her toward the elevators. "Leave."
Natalie held her ground, looking back at the manager. She tapped the face of her smartwatch twice. "I recorded every second of what you just did. If this footage gets out, the Carlson Group is going to have a PR nightmare on its hands. Good luck explaining that."
The woman couldn't have cared less. She crossed her arms haughtily. "Who do you think corporate is going to protect? Me, or you?"
Natalie pulled out her phone. "Then let's call your boss and have him come down here to see exactly how you treat his employees."
The manager sneered. "Oh, please. Let me do it for you."
She pulled out her phone and dialed the department director. "Someone's down here causing a scene! She's threatening to post videos of me online! You need to get down here and sort this out."
Tilda grabbed Natalie's arm, her grip bruising. "Please, just go home! I can't afford to lose this job." Seeing the contact name on Natalie's phone screen, she gritted her teeth. "Haven't you suffered enough humiliation from him? You're actually going to beg him for help over this?"
She dragged Natalie to the elevator bay and slammed the call button. "Hurry up and get out of here. I can handle this. She won't do anything too extreme. I'm in my forties—a slap across the face isn't going to break me. I'm not some fragile teenager."
Tilda spoke in rapid, breathless sentences, her cheek visibly swollen and purple. Natalie just stared at her, her eyes stinging with unshed tears.
Just then, the elevator doors chimed open. Felix Forrester, the Business Department Director, stepped out. He was a short man with a square, imposing face, and he glared at the two women. "What is going on here?"
