Hassan stated calmly, "It's a rare medical exception."

The doctor stepped in to clarify. "There are indeed special cases. If genetic chimerism or multi-locus mutations occur during inheritance, a standard paternity test will immediately rule out a biological connection. A high-depth whole-genome sequencing is absolutely required to confirm parentage."

Natalie listened, her delicate eyelashes trembling faintly before she let out a sharp laugh. "So that's how it is. Well, I feel much better now."

She flashed Hassan a brittle smile. "If Cecily finds out Gardenia gave birth to a Carlson heir, I imagine my divorce papers will be processed overnight."

Gardenia clutched Adrian's small hand, her voice firm and resolute. "You're overthinking this, Natalie. I have never once wanted to join the Carlson family."

Natalie found her self-righteousness absolutely revolting. Playing the saint while acting like a homewrecker.

She let out a mocking sneer. "Right, of course. Being a mistress is fantastic—so much freedom on the side."

Hassan seized her wrist and pulled her toward the door, throwing a quick glance at Gardenia. "Take good care of Adrian."

Natalie let herself be dragged along like a lifeless marionette, completely numb.

Hassan shoved her back into her hospital room, pressing her down onto the bed. His gaze swept over the bowl of soup she had barely touched.

Natalie opened her mouth, fully intending to tell him to get the hell out.

Just then, the door opened. Yvonne walked in carrying a container of sliced pineapple. When she saw Hassan, her face lit up with surprise and joy. "Oh, you're here! I would've bought an extra portion if I'd known."

Hassan glanced at the fruit in her hand and replied smoothly, "I just got here to check on her."

"How did she fall into the water?" Yvonne asked, worried.

"An accident," he lied effortlessly.

Yvonne hurried to the bedside. "Lie down properly. Why are you out of bed?"

She pulled the blanket up to cover Natalie.

Noticing the uneaten soup, Yvonne pushed the small overbed table toward Hassan. "I'm going to chat with Natalie for a bit. Why don't you feed her?"
