The AC in the suite was blasting, yet it did nothing to quell the scorching heat consuming Natalie's body. She tried to prop up her jelly-like limbs. The crystal chandelier above began to spin in her vision, its light fracturing into a dazzling, blurry halo of crushed stars.
"Natalie." A deep, husky voice murmured near her ear. She parted her lips, feeling nothing but a suffocating fever.
A towering silhouette leaned over the edge of the sofa, blocking out the glare of the chandelier.
The room plunged into dim intimacy. She curled herself into a tight ball, her body temperature spiking, a heavy flush spreading across her cheeks. She bit her lower lip hard, fine beads of sweat clinging to her forehead and neck.
The man sat on the edge, gently cupping her delicate jaw. His thumb coaxed her clenched teeth apart, his knuckle brushing against the softness of her lips, feeling the sting where she had bitten down too hard.
With his other hand, he typed out a text on his phone.
Before he could hit send, a slender hand accidentally swatted it away.
She gripped his wrist tightly, refusing to let go. Her palm was feverishly hot, as if desperate for his cool, grounding touch.
He glanced at the phone now resting on the cushions but didn't reach for it.
His dark eyes locked onto the agonizingly restless woman. He shrugged off his suit jacket, draped it entirely over her, and scooped her up into his arms.
At first, she squirmed weakly against him, but the familiar scent of pine lingering on his jacket quickly subdued her. She buried her face against his chest, clutching the lapels tightly.
He pulled open the door and stepped out.
Zeke had just arrived. He was in the middle of instructing the club manager when he saw his boss emerge. He froze for a second before hurrying over. "Mr. Carlson."
Zeke noticed the bundle in Hassan's arms and paused, quickly connecting the dots. "Should I call a doctor?"
