His dark eyes bore into her. "You're being immature. Divorce isn't the best option for you. You're just acting on impulse right now."
Natalie grabbed a pillow from the bed and hurled it at him. "Even if I am, it's my choice. How I live my life is none of your business. Before, I listened to everything you said because I wanted to. But I don't want to anymore."
His voice remained completely flat. "You want a divorce because of Gardenia. That's acting on impulse."
Natalie was already exhausted. She didn't want to talk to him anymore.
She packed her bag in silence and walked right out.
Cecily had brought Cup along in the car. The little dog spent the entire ride rubbing against Natalie's ankles. Natalie rested her hand on the dog's head, petting him softly. Cup stared up at her with big, dark eyes, his tail wagging so fast it looked like a propeller. It was incredibly cute.
Natalie couldn't help but smile, scooping the dog up and setting him on her lap.
Cecily had given up the back seat to Natalie and Hassan, opting for the passenger seat instead. Glancing in the rearview mirror, she saw that the two of them hadn't exchanged a single glance. It was obvious they were having another cold war.
She spoke up. "Cup is just like a baby. Once you and Hassan have a child of your own, you'll see how much cuter a real baby is."
Natalie's hand froze over the dog's fur.
Hassan shot her a faint, unreadable glance.
Neither of them said a word.
Cecily felt her anxiety spike.
Given how they were acting, she was starting to wonder if they had already secretly gotten a divorce behind her back.
It wasn't just Natalie who was suspicious of Gardenia; the rest of the Carlson family was starting to side-eye her as well.
Even though Gardenia and Hassan were tied together by a debt of gratitude, the two of them were definitely too close for comfort.
Cecily was determined not to let that disabled woman marry into the Carlson family.
The private manor was hidden deep within a lush forest. A perfectly straight driveway cut across a massive, vibrant green lawn, leading up to an imposing wrought-iron gate wrapped in blooming rose vines.
As the car pulled through the gates, a bubbling fountain sent silver droplets of water spraying into the air, glittering brightly in the sunlight.
Natalie leaned against the window, the gentle, fresh scent of flowers drifting in on the breeze.
