It suddenly started raining outside, accompanied by roaring thunder. The temperature was definitely dropping.
Natalie's thoughts lingered briefly on the weather before she looked back down, skimming past the nasty comments. Not long after, the lounge door was pushed open.
Hassan Carlson walked right in, his jacket draped over his arm. "Come with me."
Natalie didn't move. "Where? To the press conference to clear your name?"
The man's eyes were dark and fathomless, his tone heavier and more terrifying than usual. "Do you think you're qualified to go?"
He continued, "Since we're getting a divorce, what's the point of letting everyone know you're Mrs. Carlson? Do you really think the family can't function without you? Or that I can't?"
He took a menacing step toward her. "From now on, you are forbidden from appearing in public. All your scheduled activities are canceled."
He didn't give her a chance to argue. His word was final.
After that day, no director dared to cast Natalie. She was effectively blacklisted in the industry. She had no performances, any videos or posts related to her were taken down, and even her official social media accounts were suspended.
Uninformed people assumed she was blacklisted because Hassan was trying to appease his first love. After all, every time Natalie made a public appearance, Gardenia would inevitably be dragged out and judged by the public.
Natalie's loyal fans voiced their outrage, but their protests were quickly drowned out in the relentless flood of internet noise.
Several massive celebrity scandals broke out soon after, skyrocketing to the top of the charts. Compared to the drama of top-tier celebrities, Natalie's situation became old news and was quickly forgotten.
A month or two later, most of the people who had spoken up for her couldn't even remember the incident.
During this time, Natalie immersed herself entirely in her lab work.
There was nothing she could do about the internet rumors, so she focused on the only thing she still had control over. It was common for her to get so busy she forgot to eat.
The exhaustion was real, but seeing their team inch closer to their goal every day filled her with a profound sense of purpose and joy.
