"Didn't they clarify? The child was born before they got together, and they're supposedly strictly professional now. Besides, I bet the wife is just too unpresentable to show her face to the media."
"True. Even though the other woman has a disabled leg, she's highly capable. I heard she's instrumental in the company's core hydro-project right now."
The elevator doors opened, and the two nurses wheeled their medical carts out.
Natalie stepped out right behind them.
The first floor was bustling. A mother sat in the waiting area, trying to soothe a crying baby, while a nurse carefully helped an elderly man toward the elevators.
As she walked out of the hospital doors, her phone rang.
It was Cecily.
Today was the family banquet arranged by the Carlson Family to formally recognize Adrian Sutton, bringing him back into the fold. In front of all the relatives, they would officially acknowledge him, publicly adding him to the line of succession and allocating his share of family assets.
Since she was still legally Hassan's wife, she was technically Adrian's stepmother. Cecily had called her two days ago, demanding she be present.
Natalie drove to the old estate.
The Ancestral Hall was filled with a heavy, solemn atmosphere. Its thick, dark wood doors were wide open, and the gilded crest above gleamed with a cold, imposing light.
She arrived somewhat late; everyone else was already standing in their respective positions based on their status in the family.
In the center stood Hassan and Adrian.
The man wore a dark charcoal custom suit, its sharp, tailored shoulders accentuating his mature, remarkably cold features.
Natalie had been staying at Sunriver Residences these past few days and hadn't returned to Sycamore Quays. The family likely knew they had wronged her this time and were giving her space to cool down.
Having not seen him for days, Natalie thought he looked even more exhausted. When his deep, complex gaze landed on her, she noticed his jawline seemed sharper. The flickering candlelight from the altar illuminated his pale profile in stark contrast.
