His eyes were profoundly dark, his nose straight. His thin lips slowly pressed against her forehead, then the tip of her nose. Just as he was about to move lower, the person in his arms grew annoyed by the disturbance and rolled over.

He curled his hand around her waist, pulling her close. Dipping his head, he buried his nose in the back of her neck, inhaling her faint scent as he fell into a deep sleep.

An indeterminate amount of time passed. The sky was just beginning to lighten when his phone rang.

The woman in his arms shifted. The man frowned, blindly reaching for his phone and answering it. His voice was husky and lazy. "Hello."

Zeke spoke up. "The sketch artist just contacted me."

The man opened his eyes. His long, harsh lashes lowered as he glanced at the person in his embrace.

Natalie frowned, having also woken up. He pulled the arm holding her back and looked at her, saying softly, "Go back to sleep for a bit."

On the other end of the line, Zeke paused in surprise. It was rare to hear his boss speak in such a gentle tone.

Hassan pulled the covers over her and took his phone, intending to go outside to take the call.

But she wrapped her arms around his waist, acting like a spoiled child refusing to wake up.

She used to do this quite often. Whenever he had to get up early, she would hold onto him and ask if he could sleep with her just a little longer.

Now, doing it again, it inexplicably made him feel a sense of unfamiliarity.

He didn't move away, letting Zeke continue.

"That assistant did say a lot, but the sketch artist mentioned his speech was chaotic, like he was just rambling. The artist suspects he might just be making things up for the bounty you offered."

Natalie kept her eyes closed, but her mind was completely awake. Hearing that last sentence, she let out a sigh of relief. It really was just fabricated nonsense. She had thought it was impossible for someone to remember a person they had only met once twelve years ago.

She let go of Hassan, rolling over to bury herself in the blankets and go back to sleep.

The man felt a sudden emptiness around his waist. He lowered his lashes, staring at the expanse of the woman's pale nape.
