"This is my wife," Hassan replied coolly.
A flash of distinct regret crossed Ferris's eyes as he looked at her.
"I've really enjoyed talking with you. Would you like to grab lunch together? It's just a chance encounter. We might not see each other again after this."
Without sparing Hassan a glance, she nodded in agreement.
But Hassan caught her wrist. "You're going to leave with a total stranger?" He said this to her in their native language.
Ferris clearly couldn't understand.
Gardenia chimed in as well. "Natalie, we're in a foreign country. It's best to be careful. Plus, we're here on business. If something happens to you, we might not be able to help you in time."
She replied, "So you guys are free right now, then?"
"What do you mean?" Gardenia asked.
"My bag was stolen on my way here. Help me find it. Didn't you just say you might not have time to look after me if something happened? You're free now, so you can help, right?"
Gardenia's lips twitched. "You can't even handle something like that yourself? What are you, a giant baby?"
"See? I can't even count on you for something this small, yet you actually expect me to rely on you for bigger things? You must be out of your mind."
Hassan stared at her, his voice frigid. "Then go with him."
He turned to Gardenia. "Don't mind her. Let's go."
The two of them left together.
Natalie watched them walk away. Ferris asked in confusion, "Aren't you two married? Why does he look more like a couple with that other lady?"
A bitter smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Yeah, he looks more like a married couple with someone else. What am I even doing here?"
She looked at Ferris. "There's a restaurant near the venue. Let me treat you to lunch. Chatting with you earlier really gave me a lot of inspiration."
He nodded. "Sure."
The restaurant had an open-air concept with a beautiful ambiance. Through the glass windows, you could see the view of the clock tower outside.
Natalie had eaten here with Hassan before.
She ordered a few dishes and then handed the menu to Ferris.
