Beside them, the boiling water at the tea stall hissed, blending with the chaotic hum of conversations all around.
Natalie listened to their seamless back-and-forth, as if they were absolutely certain she would just fall in line and eat with them.
She swept a cold glance over Gardenia. Being half a head taller, she naturally had the upper hand in presence. “You're deliberately acting magnanimous, but only an idiot wouldn't see right through it.”
A flicker of emotion surfaced in Hassan's otherwise indifferent eyes, and his voice dropped to a freezing register. “Let her do what she wants. If something actually happens, she'll learn her lesson.”
A mocking smile pulled at the corner of Natalie's mouth. “Yes, learning a lesson is definitely better than watching you two parade around your little romance under the guise of 'just friends'.”
She turned on her heel and left with Ferris.
The four of them did not take the same elevator down.
As they stepped out of the elevator, Ferris asked:
“From the tone of your voice back there, I get the feeling you and your husband are completely at odds. Forgive me if this is too intrusive, but are you planning to divorce?”
Natalie nodded. “Yeah, soon. We've already signed the papers.” They were just waiting for the final license.
Ferris looked at her and smiled gently. “The woman next to him... she wouldn't happen to be the other woman, would she?”
Natalie let out a cold scoff. “Everyone thinks so. Everyone except her, who insists they're 'just friends'.”
Ferris pondered this for a moment. “I've definitely seen that dynamic before. Doing everything couples do while hiding behind the label of friendship, just refusing to admit it. I guess it takes... thick skin?”
As they chatted, they unknowingly wandered onto another street.
This area featured a unique plaza where a lot of tourists stopped to snap pictures.
“Did you see that bookstore over there?” Ferris pointed toward a spot about a hundred meters away.
It was a vintage-styled bookshop adorned with roses. A white cat lounged lazily on the windowsill, its tail swishing back and forth.
Natalie nodded. “Do you want to buy a book?”
Ferris smiled. “I've been hanging out there reading ever since I left the seminar. They actually have quite a few out-of-print editions. It's still early before dinner, want to check it out together?”
He scratched his blonde hair slightly. “Unless you find that boring?”
The corners of Natalie's eyes crinkled in amusement, her pupils sparkling in the sunlight. “I never find going somewhere new boring. Let's go.”
