Cora was a woman of her word.
Not a single person managed to pry the author's identity out of her.
Even when the powerful Sheridan family tried to pressure and bribe her, she stubbornly played dumb. She claimed she had dropped her notebook, and when she found it, someone had already written the answers inside.
The Sheridans were skeptical, but they didn't push the matter further.
The next day, Professor Adler called Natalie into his office.
"Was that you?" Adler pushed his glasses up his nose and gave a light huff. "I knew it the second I read it. No one else could have written something like that but you."
Natalie looked down, hiding a smile. "Was it really that obvious?"
"A lot of people online are suspecting that 'H' is back," Adler pointed out.
Natalie rubbed her nose sheepishly. "I just couldn't hold back in the moment."
Adler practically dotted on her. "You did brilliantly! If you hadn't insisted on keeping a low profile, I wouldn't have let that old buzzard Trenton Yates get the first share! I would have been the first one to post it! Hmph, I want everyone to know you're on my team."
Natalie's eyes crinkled into a bright, vibrant smile. For a moment, she looked truly alive.
She sighed affectionately. "What do you mean 'on your team'? You make us sound like a crime syndicate."
"You better not try to distance yourself from me later," Adler teased.
"Of course not. Don't worry."
When it was time to leave, Professor Adler stuffed her arms full of snacks.
Natalie felt a bit helpless. She had never portrayed herself as a foodie, yet somehow, everyone loved forcing food on her.
When Natalie returned to the lab, the entire team swarmed her.
Jett Saxon, the most mischievous guy in the lab, cleared his throat and did a spot-on impression of Trenton Yates: "Incredible wealth of knowledge and highly unique insights. I would very much like to meet this person."
Marvin Ford patted Jett on the shoulder. "You're in the wrong profession, man. You should be in Hollywood."
Jett grinned. "Acting is boring. I'd rather be a lackey for our future tech overlord."
At six feet tall, Jett leaned against Natalie like a clingy wife. "Boss, be my sugar momma! I want to be publicly endorsed by Mr. Yates too. I want him to say he really wants to meet me."
"You better hope the Professor doesn't hear you. He'll think you believe Yates is better than him!"
"Oh, the Professor is great and all, but I'm just sick of looking at his face," Jett quipped.
