The next morning.

Adrian was nowhere to be seen at breakfast. When Cecily asked about him, the housekeeper mentioned that Gardenia and Hassan had come by early to take the boy to school together.

Cecily's expression instantly soured.

Natalie sat quietly to the side, finishing her meal. Just as she was about to head out, Cecily called out to her. "You don't even have a job anymore. Why are you running out the door so early every day?"

Natalie replied casually, "I signed up for kickboxing classes, and occasionally I go to the studio to dance."

"It's good to keep yourself busy. But in a few days, you need to start socializing and reconnecting with the other wives in our circle."

The only reason Cecily hadn't forced Natalie to socialize right now was because they had just brought Adrian—an illegitimate son—into the house. If Natalie went out mingling, the gossiping wives would undoubtedly mock her relentlessly.

Natalie had never been one to bite her tongue, and she had offended plenty of people in the past. If they got ahold of something this humiliating, they would never let it go.

Natalie casually agreed.

It didn't matter. She wasn't asking her to go right this second anyway. In a few weeks, she and Hassan would be divorced. Why would she care about what high society thought of her then?

Since returning from the symposium, Natalie had been overflowing with new concepts. She had practically lived in the lab for the past two days, only leaving to eat and sleep.

As she was wrapping up her current task, Marvin walked over to her desk. "Jett is treating everyone to karaoke tonight. We're all going. You in?"

Hearing that the whole team was going, Natalie readily agreed. "Sure, just let me finish this up."

The KTV was located in the bustling heart of downtown. It was a highly exclusive venue, and they had booked a massive private suite.

Walking through the main lobby, watching men and women laughing and dancing wildly, Natalie suddenly remembered what it felt like to actually go out and have fun with friends.

But ever since she married Hassan, her entire life had revolved around him. She hadn't set foot in a place like this in years.

Natalie stayed close to Marvin as they headed into their suite.

Being in a nightlife venue meant drinks were inevitable. She carefully monitored her intake, fully intending to stay sober.

Halfway through the night, Marvin got a phone call and stepped out into the hallway.

When he returned, he leaned in close to Natalie and whispered, "Jacob Holt just called me. He said Hassan is running a fever but completely refuses to go to the hospital."
