Natalie had just learned a few new moves from her instructor and decided to test them out directly on Warren Walsh.
With a swift shoulder throw, the man crashed heavily onto the floor.
He lay there, completely motionless.
Natalie stared at him, fully aware that she wasn't skilled enough to actually knock a grown man out with a single throw.
Either way, this was justifiable self-defense after being harassed.
She was just about to step over Warren and leave when she noticed a slow trickle of crimson pooling beneath his head, creeping across the floor until it reached her shoes.
Her heart skipped a beat.
When the police arrived, they found a diamond cufflink resting exactly where Warren's head had hit the ground. It was that single, sharp edge that had drawn blood.
Natalie was taken to the precinct. She couldn't leave without someone coming to bail her out.
Scrolling through her phone, her first instinct was to call Nancy Gaines. Then, remembering the photos, she thought about asking Julian. She rarely got to see Hassan's assistant, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
However, she only had Zeke's contact info, not Julian's.
So, she texted Hassan Carlson, asking him to send Julian over to handle things.
He replied with a simple: *Okay.*
He didn't even ask what had happened.
To Natalie's absolute shock, the person who walked into the precinct wasn't Julian—it was Hassan himself.
Surprised, she blurted out, "Aren't you burning up with a fever?"
He walked straight up to her, his voice uncharacteristically raspy. "What kind of trouble did you get yourself into this time?"
Natalie could practically feel the heat radiating off his body.
She lowered her eyes. "I didn't do anything. He crossed the line and harassed me, so I flipped him over my shoulder. There just happened to be a cufflink on the floor, and it cut his head."
Hassan looked over at the officer. "So, it was an accident."
"It was an accident, but we haven't determined who dropped the cufflink," the officer replied, casting a skeptical glance at Natalie. "We can't rule out the possibility that you placed it there on purpose."
Natalie was speechless. Hassan simply asked, "Where is he?"
"He's at the hospital," she answered.
Hassan turned back to the officer. "I'm posting bail for Natalie. We'll handle the hospital situation."
The officer nodded. He knew exactly who Hassan was and didn't press the matter further.
Natalie followed Hassan out.
