After the last meeting between the two teams, the higher-ups had finally abandoned the idea of merging them. Both sides were firmly against it, and forcing them together would only end in disaster.

Professor Adler was so relieved that he had even sent a large bonus to the group chat to celebrate.

Natalie managed to snag the biggest share. Just as she was thinking her luck was turning around, she received a text from Hassan: Warren Walsh had woken up at the hospital.

Because of the scandalous nature of the place where Warren had been injured, the Walsh family had held off on dealing with the situation until he regained consciousness.

Now that he was awake, they naturally needed to hear his side of the story and settle the matter.

This was especially pressing given that the Carlson Group currently had a major collaborative project in the works with Avenir Group, which was owned by Warren's uncle.

Hassan picked Natalie up in front of the martial arts studio.

Zeke was sitting in the passenger seat.

Natalie opened the rear door and slid inside. Hassan was seated on the other side, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, his sharp profile illuminated by the passing lights.

He clearly hadn't expected Warren to wake up today either. His fingertips rested on his Mac keyboard as he reviewed the regional operational reports line by line, occasionally typing out brief responses.

When Natalie settled in, his deep, dark eyes swept over her but didn't linger. "Keep your temper in check later," he said mildly. "And let me do the talking."

She sat quietly in the corner, her slender fingers gripping the fabric of her clothes.

When he didn't hear a response after a long moment, it was as if he could read her mind. His lips pressed into a thin line, his expression turning cold. "You were in the right initially, but now that he's been lying unconscious in a hospital bed all this time, the optics have shifted against you. Do you understand?"

A dead silence fell over the car. Even the sound of his typing stopped.
