Hassan took another sip of water and handed the glass back. "Pour me another."

"Give me a break." Yale Easton checked his phone. "Jacob Holt is on his way up. I'm out of here; I don't want to listen to his nonsense."

The man slowly raised his eyes. "And you think I do?"

"Good luck with that."

Natalie Thornton stood before the restroom mirror, her head practically buried in the sink as she frantically splashed freezing water over her face, the icy pressure numbing her lips.

It wasn't until the heat in her skin finally subsided that she stared at her reflection, her breathing heavy and ragged.

She shut off the faucet, grabbed a paper towel, and blotted the water from her face.

Cecily had materialized behind her at some point.

The older woman reached out, gently patting Natalie's shoulder, a trace of genuine heartache in her eyes.

"Natalie." Cecily pulled her into a hug. "We will make this up to you. Just name your price. Whatever you want, it's yours."

Natalie offered a hollow smile and tossed the damp paper towel into the trash. "Cecily, if I said I wanted a divorce, would you agree?"

Cecily stiffened. She looked at Natalie and answered without a second of hesitation, "No."

Natalie dropped her gaze, her voice devoid of emotion. "Then why even ask me what I want?"

"Is there truly nothing else you desire?"

"Is this supposed to be hush money? My husband risked his life to save someone else without a second thought for his own safety. What am I even supposed to say?" Her voice cracked, and she rubbed the back of her neck. "Just leave me alone for a minute."

Natalie walked out, her purse damp from the splashed water, but she didn't have the energy to care.

In the hallway, she ran into Yale.

This time, he took the initiative to ask, "Are you... holding up okay?"

Natalie exhaled a shaky breath. "I'll live."

Just then, Jacob rushed out of the elevator. "How's Hassan?"

He grabbed Yale by the arm.

Yale sighed in exasperation and pointed toward the hospital room. "He's in there. Keep your voice down."

Jacob stormed right in.

The door clicked shut.

Natalie stared at the closed door. "He sure has a lot of people who care about him."

She lifted her hand, her palm still slightly damp.

Yale handed her a tissue. "Here."

Natalie took it. Her lips parted as she finally spoke. "Show me the dashcam footage from his car."

Yale froze. "Why would you want to see that?"

She lifted her gaze, her eyes hard. "Show it to me."
