Hassan's eyelashes fluttered slightly, his breathing heavy. His fingers curled into tight fists as he stared Jude down. "I never tried to take her from you."
"I know." Jude let out a bitter scoff. "You're the one she chose."
Jude's voice suddenly cracked into a shout. He lunged, grabbing Hassan by the lapels of his suit, twisting the expensive fabric into his fists. "But I'm a selfish bastard! Even if she chose you, I'll never let her go!"
Hassan's eyes were bloodshot, his pupils as dark and unfathomable as ink.
Jude slowly released his grip. "I refuse to believe you feel absolutely nothing for Natalie after all these years."
He smoothed out the wrinkles he had just crushed into Hassan's jacket. "If you still have even an ounce of feelings for Natalie, don't try to take Gardenia from me. Otherwise, I'll show you exactly what a man who isn't afraid to die is capable of."
Hassan drew in a long, unsteady breath. He hunched forward, resting his elbows on his knees, and buried his face in his hands. "Your sister left a letter. I have it."
Jude's pupils constricted violently, his chest seizing. "What did you just say? Why the hell would you have my sister's letter?!"
The fragile composure Jude had been clinging to shattered instantly. Tears spilled from his eyes as he violently yanked Hassan by the arm. "Where is it? What gave you the right to take her letter? No... she died on the spot, didn't she? How could she have left a letter? You're lying!"
"The Sheridan family lied to you about her dying on the spot," Hassan said. "She was rushed into the operating room at the same time as you, but her injuries were too severe. She couldn't be saved. Right before the end, she gave me a letter."
"She gave it to you?" Jude's voice cracked in pure anguish, shattering into a pathetic, desperate sob. "Why would she give it to you?!"
Hassan lifted his head. "If you ever want to see the last thing your sister left behind, stop getting in my way. Otherwise, burning a single piece of paper takes no effort at all."
Jude threw a brutal punch straight into Hassan's face. "You're out of your mind! You're using my dead sister to threaten me?!"
He swung a second time, but Hassan caught his fist mid-air. The sickening sound of knuckles cracking echoed through the room. Hassan's voice was absolute ice. "You threatened me first."
"What the hell are you two doing?!" Jacob Holt appeared in the doorway out of nowhere. He rushed in and shoved Jude backward, immediately checking Hassan's hand. "What is wrong with you guys? Why are you fighting?"
