"Try calling Gardenia first," Natalie reminded him. "What if she agrees? After all, you did stay by her side in Mothria Country for quite a while."
Jude stared at the contact name on his phone—Flower.
If it had been anything else, Jude would never have called Gardenia to bother her.
But this was different.
This was his sister's letter.
Taking Natalie's advice, Jude dialed Gardenia's number.
The call connected quickly. "Did you need something?"
"Yeah. Gardenia, are you able to get into Hassan's office?"
She sounded confused. "Why are you asking that?"
"My sister's letter is with Hassan," Jude said.
There was a moment of silence before she suddenly laughed. "Jude, are you out of your mind? You're not actually asking me to go steal a letter for you, are you?"
"What do you mean, 'steal'?" Jude's voice trembled. "It belongs to me in the first place!"
Gardenia's tone turned nonchalant. "Your sister gave it to Hassan. What does it have to do with you? If she wanted you to have it, it would be in your hands right now. Don't you even understand that?"
Jude's pupils contracted. "Gardenia, what are you saying? You know exactly how much my sister means to me. When did you become like this?"
She had never been like this before.
He had considered the possibility that she might refuse him, but he never expected her to be so cruel about it.
Gardenia paused, her tone softening slightly. "I can't go steal a letter for you."
Jude gritted his teeth, his jaw tight. "It was mine to begin with!"
